I recently started a batch of homemade limoncello using lemons from the supermarket.

http://foodsoftheworld.activeboards.net/limoncello_topic2319.html

After doing a lot more reading I am concerned about leaching pesticide residues out of the lemon zest along with the good stuff like lemon oil.  I washed them well with dishwashing soap before using them but am now considering throwing it out and starting over with some organic lemons.  I wonder if there is enough bad stuff in the peels of 6 lemons that I should be concerned?

no no  don't throw it out . first the alcohol will kill any bugs so if you see one just take him out or don't .
if you washed it well with soap you are OK.good Luck.

In all honesty, the alcohol is probably the most dangerous substance involved.

andy - it's probably something i woudln't worry too much about, but on the organic lemons would take care of the worry completely - and, as you know, organic lemons would also probably taste better. we got some not long ago, and boy, were they good!
